If you were in Ottawa, KS or Franklin County during the third week of June, you may have heard a little something about the SWAN Arts Festival. This inaugural event spanning several art forms (literature, visual, auditory, and even something for the foodies!) took place at City Park in downtown Ottawa June20th-22nd.
The kick-off event (Thursday June 19th) featured a poetry presentation and multiple readings by Kansas Poet Laureate, Wyatt Townley (featured below). The focus of her presentation was on the concept of “home” that resonates throughout Kansas. “From our state song, ‘Home on the Range,’ to the Wizard of Oz mantra, ‘There’s no place like home,’ it’s bigger than a location. And smaller,” (Townley).
This idea of “home” has inspired Townley to create a “HomeWords” poetry program asking the questions, “What is home?” and “Where is it?” For more information about this amazing opportunity, visit…
