When the ink dries, we see our work. Shaped, formed, completed. Yet, the writing is laborious. Like the birth of a child. And though we push and bring forth existence, it takes on a life of its own. For it was never our life. We simply nurtured it for a time. And though that time be brief or stretched, it is but a moment. And a moment cannot be held captive, but must be allowed to roam free. For though a snapshot image exists, the moment can never be regained. And the more you try, the more you fail – like grasping water in your hands. And you must learn to let it flow, like the river it was meant to be. And cherish the moment you had together, and the piece of you still there.
Dave Burns is just your typical guy with a passion for writing and a mastery of the backspace key.
He began writing at a young age (as most writers do), and completed a compilation of short stories and poems at Ottawa University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Religion and Philosophy. He has been writing ever since, but his passion was re-sparked in the fall of 2009 when he decided to take his craft seriously. Since then, he has been very active in the entire writing process and community.
In the spring on 2012, Burns founded The Ottawa Writer’s Guild (www.theottawawritersguild.wordpress.com) – a collection of writers in Ottawa, KS dedicated to the love of writing. In addition to writing, he is also teaching Creative Writing in the Ottawa, KS community.
